Kokedama Care Guide

What Are Kokedamas?
Kokedamas are a great way to compliment a special plant and display it in a unique form. Care for a Kokedama is simple and very straightforward, with only a few steps.

Step 1
Lighting
Make sure your Kokedama receives the right amount of light throughout the day. Information about lighting is located in the plant's description when buying.
●○○- can tolerate indirect, low light. Ideal locations are north or east-facing windows or shaded rooms
●●○-requires brighter indirect light but will still thrive without direct sunlight. South and west-facing rooms are suitable if placed a few feet from the window.
●●●- requires bright direct lighting in some parts of the day. South and west-facing rooms are suitable when placed close to the window.

Step 2
Watering
Fill a bowl of room temperature water and submerge your kokedama allowing it to soak for at least 10 minutes or when the moss ball feels significantly heavier than before watering. After soaking, bring the moss ball out and drain the excess water.
When To Water?
You will know when to water when the moss ball feels significantly lighter when watered and the soil inside is slightly dry. If you are unsure of when to water, stick a toothpick into the top of the moss ball and if the top 2 inches of soil is dry, you can water. In the winter, you will need to water around once every 1-1.5 weeks and in the summer around once a week depending on your conditions at home.

Step 3
Fertilizing and Maintenance
Use a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during the growing seasons: (spring and summer).
Trim back any dead or yellowing leaves to promote new growth. Prune any roots sticking out of the moss ball to maintain it’s shape.
If your plants start to yellow too much, it can be a sign of over or under watering. Adjust your watering schedule accordingly and make sure your plant is not placed in a dark and humid location.
